Sultan Alp Arsalan was the nephew of Tughrul Beg, the first independent sultan of the Seljuk Empire, and the son of Chagri Beg, ruler of Khorasan, brother of Tughrul Beg.

The title of Alp Arsalan
Sultan Alp Arsalan received the title of Alp Arsalan for his military prowess, heroism, and combat prowess. It means “hero lion” in Turkish and Turkmen languages. His real name is Muhammad. Origin of the Seljuks
The Seljuks originated from the Kinik settlement. Kinik is one of the 24 main branches of the Oguz. The Oguz settlements were mainly in Central Asia and Southeast Russia. The Seljuk was the leader of a group of Kinik settlements during the 11th century. This group migrated and settled near the river Sirdaria, later converted to Islam. Their full name is Abu Sulayman Dawood Chagri Ibn Mikail. He was born in 989 AD. Dawood bin Mikail bin Seljuk or Chagri Beg was the deputy ruler of the Seljuk Empire. Chari Bay later controlled the greater Khorasan region, and Tughrul Beg developed an empire in western Iran and Mesopotamia (Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and parts of Turkey). When the Seljuks began to gain strength and plunder the frontier areas, Sultan Masud of Ghazni saw it as a threat to the empire and engaged in war with the Seljuks in 1040. On the eve of the start of the war, the Seljuks launched a covert attack on the Ghaznavids, destroying their supply systems and removing the water wells. As a result, the discipline and morale of the Gajanvis was lost. In the end, Tughrul Bay and Chagari Bay won against Gajanvi with 50,000 troops, 12 or 60 elephants with 16,000 troops. He died in 1080 AD. He was the first grandson of the Seljuks.

Uncle Sultan Tugrul Beg
The full name is Sultan Ruknuddin Abu Talib Tugrul-Beg Muhammad Ibn Mikail Ibn Seljuk.
Nickname:
Tugrul Alp, Tugril, Togril, Tugrul or Togril Veg. The whale was born in 990 AD. He was the second grandson of the Seljuks. Was the Turkish founder of the Seljuk Empire, who ruled the empire from 1036 to 1063. Tughrul united the Turkish warriors of the Great Eurasian Staphylococcus tribes. These tribes called their ancestor the Seljuk Beg as their sole caliph, and with their help conquered eastern Iran. He later conquered Persia, recaptured the Abbasid capital Baghdad from the Buwayhi dynasty in 1055, and handed over the capital Baghdad to the Tughrul Abbasid Caliph.
He was able to expand the borders of his caliphate (empire) and keep half of the world in his sphere of influence through efficient diplomacy. He succeeded in uniting the Islamic world. He died on 4 September 1063.

From Alp Arsalan to Sultan
He became the ruler of Khorasan after the death of his father Chagri Beg (1080 AD). After the death of his uncle Tughrul Beg, Alp Arsalan’s brother Sulaiman succeeded Tughrul Beg. This legacy was fought between Alp Arsalan and another uncle, Kutalmish. Alp Arsalan defeated Kutalmish and became the sultan of the great Seljuk dynasty on 26 April 1064, emerging as the absolute emperor of Persia from Amudarya to Tigris.

In his time, when the Turkish tribes joined the Muslim forces in groups, it was possible for him to recapture the lost kingdoms of the western part of the Abbasid Empire and turn it into a united state. This increased the dignity of the Muslim army. Romanos, the emperor of the Byzantine Empire, began to prepare for war with just over 100,000 troops to put an end to the Seljuk threat. Romanos when ready for battle

After completing the preparations, the great Seljuk Sultan Alp Arsalan was fighting against the Fatimid Caliphate of Egypt. Sultan Alp Arsalan wanted to seize Baitul Muqaddas and the border areas of Syria from the Fatimids. Neither the Seljuk Empire nor the Sultanate was able to wage two major wars simultaneously. So Sultan Alp Arsalan sent a message to the Romanos that the Seljuks would recognize the rights of the Romans in Anatolia and stop the invasion of Anatolia. At the same time, the Romans had to stop infiltrating the Seljuk Sultanate. But the Byzantine emperor Romanos did not accept the treaty. Romanos began to advance toward the Seljuk Sultanate. Sultan Alp Arsalan prepared 30,000 troops for the battle. Among them were skilled horsemen and archers. In 1061, he arrived on the shores of Lake Van to fight the Byzantine Emperor Seljuk Sultan Alp Arsalan. Sultan Alp Arsalan reached Lake Van on a long journey and attacked the Romans from behind. The Romans suffered heavy casualties in this attack. Turkish troops who had come to fight the Romans also joined the Seljuks. Which broke the morale of the Romans. When the Romans started fighting with the troops of Sultan Alp Arsalan, rumors spread that Romanos were dead. As the rumors spread, the Roman soldiers began to flee. The Byzantines or Romans who came to war with huge armies lost the battle in just 24 hours. And the Muslims were victorious. But then the defeat of the war is nothing to him. An ordinary Seljuk sepoy presented a Roman to Sultan Alp Arsalan. Sultan Alp Arsalan, seeing the wounded and the dusty Roman, asked, “Who is this man?” The Seljuk sepoy said that this man was a Byzantine emperor Romanos. Sultan Alp Arsalan could not believe that the Byzantine emperor was lying at his feet. Sultan Alp Arsalan put his foot on Romanos’s chest and asked, “Romanos, what would you do if I were to appear before you like this?” Romanos said – I would have killed you or chained you to the market in Constantinople. Sultan Alp Arsalan said – this is a sample of your revenge. You do not know how to retaliate against Muslims? Revenge of Muslims is the best. I forgave you in retaliation. Treaty after the war
Sultan Alp Arsalan made a treaty with Romanos. According to the treaty, much of Anatolia became part of the Seljuk Sultanate.
Romanos gave 1.5 million gold coins as compensation for the war. Also each year the revenue and Romanos promised to give his daughter in marriage to the son of Sultan Alp Arsalan. Romanos was then released.

The condition of Emperor Romanos after his release
Romanos was captured by Byzantine troops before reaching Constantinople after his release. Because then there was a revolt against Romanos in the Byzantine Empire and the new Byzantine emperor Mikhail Dokas VII also took power. Romanos was taken, prisoner. His eyes are gouged out and Romanos dies in agony in prison. Anatolia has never been occupied by Christians since then.
