Pathaan is a 2023 Hindi action thriller film directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra of Yash Raj Films. The fourth installment of the YRF Spy universe starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham as well as Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana.
Written by Shridhar Raghavan and Abbas Tyrewal, based on a story by Anand, the film follows Pathaan, an exiled RAW agent who must work with ISI agent Rubina to defeat Jim, a former RAWagent turned Turned traitor and plans to spread a deadly virus created by in a laboratory in India at the request of a Pakistani military general. Pathaan began filming in Mumbai in November 2020. The film was shot in various locations in India, Afghanistan, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Russia, Italy, and France.

Two songs were composed by the duo Vishal-Shekhar and the music was provided by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara. The music video for one song, “Besharam Rang”, featured Padukone in a saffron bikini, prompting protests from right-wing Hindutva groups, who saw this as an insult and a call for a boycott of the film. However, the Central Film Certification Board allowed the film to be screened after making some changes to the song sequence.
The film was made with an estimated production budget of ₹crore (US$28 million), with an additional 15 crore (US$1.9 million) spent on printing and promotion. Contrary to the norm, pre-release publicity was limited, with no media interaction or public events.

Pathaan was released in India on January 25, 2023, to coincide with Republic Day weekend in IMAX, 4DX, and Standard formats, as well as Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions. It received positive reviews from critics and broke several Indian box office records including the largest opening day and largest opening weekend for a Hindi film.
Subsequent opening records have been set in overseas markets.[9] With a worldwide grossing 977.09 crore ($120 million), Pathaan is the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023, the second highest-grossing Hindi film, and the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of all time, as well as the highest-grossing release.
